Ankarana, located on the northern circuit, is set in a fantastic landscape with vast expanses of razor sharp tsingy.
There are ten lemur species here, including the sanford’s, the crowned and the vociferous sportive lemur. You can also see tenrecs, the myseterious fosa and over 13 species of bat.
Ankarana is the most rewarding tsingy plateau areas for nature enthusiasts by far, as well as being the most assessable.
Bird watchers can see over 54 species of birds, including the white breasted mesite and coquerel’s coua.
If you want to stay in the park, Relais de L'Ankarana is the most comfortable choice with hot and cold running water. You can also camp in the park and there are excellent meals nearby.
Another accommodation is the Tsingy Lodge, with three en suite bungalows. This lodge is a great site for viewing nocturnal wildlife such as lemurs and chameleons.
To the west is an area with amazing caves and grand tsingy formations. In this part of the park is the Iharana Bush Camp, with tasteful rooms and service deemed to be excellent.
