Antigua

Discovered in 1493 by Christopher Columbus, this beautiful island retains its seafaring connections and is a favourite destination for the yachting fraternity.

Excellent watersport conditions attract crowds during Sailing Week but, for the rest of the year, you can retreat into this unspoiled paradise of lush palm groves, tropical flowers and exotic birds.

Antigua is ideally placed for exploring the variety that is the Caribbean. Study a map of the area and see how easy it is to hop over to St Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla or the Virgin Islands and experience another side of West Indian life. You are also just a short flight away from the cosmopolitan chic island of St Barths or the French influence of St Martin.

Climb to Shirley Heights and look down over English Harbour to enjoy one of the most spectacular sights in the Caribbean. Visit Nelson’s Dockyard or hire a car and experience the novelty of exploring an island with virtually no signposts!
