The Anjajavy forest reserve is very similar in terms of wildlife to Ankarafantsika, but with the added bonus of thousands of baobabs, in three species and groves of cycads.
In this unofficially protected area of dry deciduous tropical forest, visitors can wander the well mapped trails and circuits from 2 hours to the whole day. Hotels include a guided night walk of the forest.
By day, you can see common brown lemurs and coquerel’s sifaka, while by night, at least two species of mouse lemur and the noisy lepilemurs.
There are many opportunities for birders here, with many critically endangered species such as the Madagascar fish eagle and the Madagascar white ibis.
For herpetofauna fans, the forest is rich with many varieties, including the 2 and a half foot long oustalet’s chameleon.
