St Lucia

Lying between Martinique to the north and St Vincent to the south, St Lucia is the second largest of the Windward Islands.

And yet it still retains an unspoiled natural charm, a fact which has undoubtedly contributed to its title as ‘Best Weddings and Honeymoon Destination’ on many occasions.

The golden beaches and pretty blue coves in the north give way to luxuriant tropical rainforest in the interior but even more breathtaking is the rugged volcanic south, which is also where you will find St Lucia’s most famous landmark, the twin peaks of the Pitons.

There’s a lively, local vibe too - the bustling capital of Castries with its natural harbour has a number of good restaurants and a colourful market every day except Sundays, plus there are fish fries in local villages and of course Friday night at Gros Islet!

St Lucia alternated between French and British rule on 14 occasions and there is an interesting mix of English, French and Creole in the culture, cuisine and language.

Tucked away in the island’s pretty coves and on lush hillsides, you’ll find some totally charming places to stay in all price categories, many with jaw-dropping views, from all-inclusive hotels with fantastic facilities to smaller more individual resorts.
