This 116 square mile strip of elongated land abounds with palm-lined beaches, lush rainforests and pristine coral reefs teeming with rich marine life.
The scuba diving is some of the best in the Caribbean, particularly for experienced divers (there are good snorkelling tours for non-divers), whilst the wildlife, and birdlife in particular, is supreme with over 200 species.
Food is influenced by the spices of Trinidad and if you need to work off your excess, the hiking and mountain biking opportunities are excellent.
Tobago is off the beaten track when it comes to sailing, but it does see quite a few yachts along the delightful coves of its northern shore.
Many come in the summer to avoid the hurricane season farther north.
