About 2 hours drive south east from the west coast port of Mahajanga is Ankarafantsika National Park.
Here you can experience 13,000 hectares of western dry deciduous forest, which contains many of the same wildlife species as the Anjajavy Forest Reserve.
Here however, you can also see the golden brown mouse lemur and the western woolly lemur.
The trails in this park are well maintained, making it very assessable to birders and nature enthusiasts.
The best accommodation in the park are lakeside chalets, with private facilities. You can also stay in the gîte, which has electricity, or camping equipment can be provided.
Although most visitors come here for the birdlife, lemur fans can see the grey mouse lemur, the fat tailed dwarf lemur and the mongoose lemur.
