Anjajavy and the Northwest

This region of Madagascar comprises of deserted beaches and empty coves, surrounded by a turquoise expanse of water shimmering with subtle hues.

In land are glorious dry deciduous forests, made up of baobabs mixed with ebonies and palissandre, complete with rich mangroves.

Dotted around the coastline are isolated Vezo fishing villages, where you can see the sails of the pirogues against the horizon. Further inland you can spot the multitude of fascinating reptiles, the rare birds and the many different types of lemur. If you are lucky, you can catch a glimpse of the solitary fosa or explore further to see the tsingy and the sacred islets.

The Anjajavy Hotel is located on a remote and fragile peninsula, alongside its dry forest reserve, which is considered an area of outstanding natural beauty in the North West.

This forest is home to many species, including the Sifaka lemur, the Cuvier’s Oplure Iguana, and the Bird of Paradise.

If you are into plants, in this area grows a huge variety of ferns, papyrus reeds, aquatic plants and palm trees. And these plants are home to many a hummingbird, kingfisher, Malagasy foudis and lemur.
