Isalo National Park

Isalo National Park can be defined by its spectacular rock formations, fascinating succulents and its diverse landscapes, making it one of the most visited national parks in Madagascar.

The park is ideal for walkers and hikers and visitors will be able to able to experience a varied terrain, home to extraordinary plants as well as seeing evidence of the Bara culture, along with a selection of Madagascar’s unique wildlife.

The most striking features of the area are the sandstone massifs and Jurassic jagged rock formations, which actually contain pockets of fire resistant tapia forest.

Even though the first thought of Isalo National Park is the landscapes and marvellous walking routes, the wildlife opportunities are excellent and not to be underestimated. Notable highlights are the Benson’s rock thrush, the Madagascar partridge and the white throated rail and at night, the white browed owl.

If you are staying at the campsite on the Namaza Trail or in the Canyon des Makis, there is a good chance of seeing lemurs, such as the Verreaux’s Sifaka.

Although a year round holiday destination, it must be noted that it is very hot between November and March and March is also the wettest time of year.
