The archipelago of the Seychelles spreads over some 115 islands and visitors come for the tranquility and relaxation, to laze on the pearl white beaches and swim in the emerald waters of the Indian Ocean. The main island of Mahe houses the international airport and the capital town of Victoria which boasts Creole restaurants, craft shops and a colourful market. The interior abounds with lush vegetation, coconut palms, cinnamon and tea plantations and towering peaks whilst around the coastline are numerous bays, beaches and coves. Nearby are many islands each with their own charm and character which can be reached from Mahe by boat or air. Praslin is the second largest island and has some delightful secluded beaches. The island is famous for its mysterious ‘Coco de Mer’ plants which grow in the Vallee de Mai. Bird Island is a bird lover’s paradise and home to a million migratory sooty terns. The island is ideal for snorkelling. La Digue offers a way of life that hasn’t changed in centuries. Snorkelling and Scuba diving are superb and the white sandy shoreline contrasts starkly with the boulder strewn landscape.
