north of Milan on the most romantic lake in the world, Villa d'Este is
surrounded by ten acres of private park. This ancient villa was built
in 1568 as a summer residence of Cardinal Tolomei Gallio. It was the
favourite dwelling of an Empress, an English Queen and minor
aristocracy until 1873, when it became a luxury hotel. While the villa
was completely renovated, its old world charm remained intact. A
magnificent park surrounds Villa d'Este with flowers, terrace,
fountains and gardens, overlooking the blue-green water of Lake Como.
